While well versed in traditional jazz, classical guitar (bebop and post-bop), Medel draws from a variety of American music forms such as jazz fusion, funk, soul, R&B and blues.
After receiving a full-ride scholarship in classical guitar at the Sherwood Conservatory of Music, Chicago, Illinois, now known as Columbia College of Chicago, Medel joined both the Classical and Jazz Guitar Faculty at age 24 as an Adjunct Professor where he continued to teach for 8 1/2 years along side DePaul University Professor Richard Pick.
"Solo Guitar Playing" is the concept utilizing classical-fingerstyle techniques that enables solo renditions of harmony and polyphonic music in much the same manner as the piano can. One can play a variety of styles, including "CLASSICAL, JAZZ, FUNK, LATIN, BLUES, ROCK, R&B and “OTHER" that can be arranged for "Solo Guitar Playing".
