Former Guitar Faculty - Sherwood Conservatory of Music, Chicago, Ill, a/k/a Columbia College of Chicago. After completing his Freshman year as a student, Medel was asked to join the guitar department as an Adjunct Professor and continued to teach both Classical and Jazz for 8 ½ years.
While well versed in traditional jazz, classical guitar (bebop and post-bop), Medel draws from a variety of American music forms such as jazz fusion, funk, soul, R&B and blues.
Guitarist Richard Medel's love of jazz and classical guitar has never blocked out his affection for popular music which he grew up with. It’s been a frequent wellspring throughout his career. “I’m just trying to do things that are interesting to me and that I feel might be interesting and fun people to listen.”
As a native of Chicago, Illinois., Medel has had a varied performing career that has included stints in Canada, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the continental U.S. having played along many well know stars and performed frequently with IRA SULLIVAN in South Florida before his passing. RIP IRA.
